Meghan Markle might not ‘care’ about the environment, so she should be free to use private jets, Omid Scobie seems to argue

With excerpts and reviews emerging for “Endgame,” the explosive new royal expose, it’s becoming clear why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have tried, not too successfully, to distance themselves from author Omid Scobie, the journalist who has been described as their “friendly biographer,” or even their “cheerleader, crusader and chum.”As the New York Times review said, Scobie has done Meghan and Harry “no favors” in his efforts to portray them in the most glowing light possible. But his portrait, critics suggest, is rather shallow, one-sided and not always effective. As the Times said, Scobie devotes much of his book to “setting the record straight on petty slights” made against the California-based couple by Harry’s royal relatives or by the U.K. media. In just one example of clumsy score settling, Scobie tried to defend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s controversial use of private jets in a splashy intervi...

Denver Broncos are relevant heading into December for the first time since 2016

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 08:30:05 GMT

DENVER (AP) — For the first time in seven seasons, the Denver Broncos will head into December with a winning record, something that seemed unfathomable when they stumbled to a 1-5 start. In their first month under Sean Payton, the Broncos (6-5) lost three games at home to underdogs — the Raiders, Commanders and Jets — who are a combined 10-22 against other opponents.Of course, their worst loss was that 70-20 meltdown in Miami in Week 3 when they surrendered 10 touchdowns — one more than they’ve given up in their last six games combined. They put together their most complete game yet in their 29-12 rout of the Browns (7-4), neutralizing Myles Garrett and the league’s best defense, thwarting Cleveland’s vaunted ground game, recovering three fumbles and scoring three red zone touchdowns, which has been their bugaboo.“There were a lot of things we did that I was pleased with,” the notoriously nitpicking Payton said after moving above .500 for the first time with the Bron...

Biden says he’s helped lower inflation as he hosts first meeting of his new supply chain council

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 08:30:05 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Monday opened the first meeting of his supply chain resilience council by warning companies against price gouging and saying that his administration was working to lower costs for U.S. families.“We know that prices are still too high for too many things, that times are still too tough for too many families,” Biden said. “But we’ve made progress.”The president has blamed inflation on issues such as supply chains and Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, while Republican lawmakers say the run-up in prices was triggered by the $1.9 trillion in coronavirus relief that Democrat Biden signed into law in 2021.Biden used the council meeting to announce 30 actions to improve access to medicine and needed economic data as well as other programs tied to the production and shipment of goods. He said he was tackling “junk fees,” hidden charges that companies sneak into bills just because they can and customers have no alternative. The council foll...

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt has rounded out his staff, retaining Sandy Alomar Jr. and Carl Willis — two long-tenured coaches under former manager Terry Francona.Vogt was hired earlier this month by Cleveland despite not having any managing experience. He’ll have continuity in Alomar, who will coach first base and the catchers, along with Willis, who has had a major impact in the Guardians developing one of baseball’s best pitching staffs.A six-time All-Star catcher with Cleveland, the popular Alomar has been on the team’s staff for 15 seasons, and Willis 14. They were instrumental in helping Francona, who stepped away after leading the Guardians to the playoffs six times in 11 seasons.Vogt also named Craig Albernaz his bench coach, replacing DeMarlo Hale, who was recently named Toronto’s associate manager. It’s a quick change for Albernaz, San Francisco’s bullpen coach last season who was named a major league field coo...

Dallas’ Luka Doncic, Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns all still have a chance to play in next summer’s Paris Olympics. But at least two of those stars won’t get there.FIBA held the Olympic qualifying tournament draws for the final four spots left in the Paris Games field on Monday — with Slovenia, Greece and the Dominican Republic all getting slotted into the same event. That means, at most, only one of those nations will make it to the Olympics.Doncic has been Slovenia’s best player for years, Antetokounmpo is the best player for Greece and Towns led the Dominican Republic to a strong showing at the World Cup this past summer.“These tournaments are something else,” FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis said. “They are six-team tournaments, every game counts, you have 12 of the top 20 teams in the world playing there. Each game could be a quarterfinal of the World Cup or a quarterfinal of the Olympics.”There are eight teams...
