(CNN) — The grandmother of the 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot by a police officer in a Paris suburb has called for an end to the violence that erupted in the aftermath of his death, as French authorities gear up for a sixth night of rioting.Victim Nahel Merzouk’s grandmother appealed to protesters on Sunday, telling CNN’s affiliate BFMTV: “They should not damage the schools, not break the buses, it was the moms who take the buses.”“I’m tired,” the grandmother, identified by BMFTV as Nadia, said, adding that Nahel’s mother, “doesn’t have a life anymore.”Meanwhile, security forces will again have more than 45,000 police and gendarmes deployed across France on Sunday night following the violent public unrest, the government said. Many of the people detained since the protests began on Tuesday are minors, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said Saturday, adding that the average age of the more than 2,000 detainees is 17 years old.The situation across France so far on Sunday has...‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ draws underwhelming box office on opening weekend

(CNN) — Harrison Ford brought the legendary titular character Indiana Jones back to the big screen this weekend with “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but its opening box office showing was lower than advance estimates. The movie grossed $60 million in the United States and $70 million internationally, bringing the fifth and final installment of the storied franchise’s global box office to $130 million on its 3-day opening.“Dial of Destiny” reportedly cost nearly $300 million to make, which makes the open weekend box office numbers underwhelming and a tall hurdle for the movie to clear in order to profit. The movie did open at number one despite mediocre reviews for Indy’s final chapter, and is projected to earn $82 million in its 5-day opening through the July 4 holiday weekend.“Dial of Destiny” also appears to have been better received by fans than the franchise’s fourth installment, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” although that ...Duxbury firefighters rescue 3 baby turkeys from storm drain

After having a break from the active pattern Saturday, more showers and storms are on the way with a few weather systems expected to move through the region. This evening, scattered showers and storms will head in from New York and Pennsylvania. Although a severe storm with gusty winds and small hail is possible, the main threat is flash flooding if storms produce heavy rain over already saturated ground.Late tonight storms clear out, giving way to some clearing and sunshine by late Monday morning. However, more storms are likely to form tomorrow afternoon ahead of a 3rd low pressure system on the way. These storms may also affect firework shows Monday as some storms may linger into the evening. For the 4th, scattered storms are expected midday as the low pressure system slides through, but there is a chance the activity clears out in time for firework shows that evening. Although scattered storms remain in the forecast through Tuesday, there are no washouts in the forecast, and th...A grim reminder of Boston’s opioid epidemic on a Dorchester splash pad

A moped was parked nearby and two “empty plastic baggies” were on the ground near the unidentified Quincy man, State Police reported. It’s officially an “unattended death.” Nothing suspicious, police added, but nothing foreign either. The Medical Examiner’s Office has the case now. This comes as OD deaths have hit a new high in the Bay State with the city also in dire shape. In Boston, 352 people died from opioid overdoses last year, a nearly 7% increase from 2021 (330 total deaths). Mets slugger Pete Alonso and Yankees starter Gerrit Cole were named as reserves for the upcoming MLB All-Star Game.Alonso is slashing .217/.311/.505 with 24 home runs and 55 RBI for the struggling Mets, however he has not been as effective since returning from a short stint on the injured list after spraining his left wrist and has fallen off his 60-dinger pace.“I’m having, technically, probably the worst month I’ve ever had in the big leagues,” Alonso said Saturday. “Over the past, I would say five, six days, I’ve been having relatively decent at-bats. And then when I hit something hard, it just always seems to find a glove. For me, this month has been really tough with a lack of performance and then dealing with an injury and then coming back from it. So it’s just been a tough month.”No other Mets were named to the All-Star team.Alonso was previously named an NL All-Star in 2019 and 2022. A freeze to her office’s budget contained in the state Senate’s proposed fiscal 2024 spending plan reflects “clear retaliation” by the Senate president and the upper chamber’s leadership in response to an ongoing audit of their operations, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio says.According to DiZoglio, Senate President Karen Spilka and other legislative leaders have responded to her announcement that she’s conducting an audit of the state Legislature by deliberately flatlining the budget for the Office of the State Auditor for the next year instead of increasing it at a rate seen by other state agencies.“It is clear retaliation by the Senate president and her leadership team in a very unfortunate attempt to coerce and control and manipulate the situation,” she told WBZ’s Jon Keller for his Sunday politics segment.“To see the pushback from the Senate leadership team in this way is incredibly unfortunate and unacceptable,” she said.As the Senate’s budget was written at rele...Union warns against Ottawa interfering in B.C. port workers strike as talks continue
