As of Jan. 1, Minnesota is one of 21 states with a so-called red flag law, which allows a court to order people to give up their guns for up to a year if they pose a threat to themselves or others.It’s one of two new gun control laws on the books now after a busy legislative session for DFL lawmakers in control of state government. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Crews were in downtown Albany on Tuesday installing a large net on one side of Central Warehouse. The netting is intended to address concerns about debris falling from the building. Albany Police Union responds to review board lawsuit Chunks of concrete fell off the building two summers ago. Some landed near the railroad tracks and forced Amtrak to shut down service west of Albany for several days. Officials said it highlighted how the building is becoming a public safety concern.The city paid for the netting. Two Hospitalized after Wrong-Way Collision near Broad StreetSAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (January 2, 2024) – Police arrested Ryan Johnson Wednesday afternoon after a DUI crash on southbound Highway 101. DUBLIN — The case advanced against two men accused of murder in a 2021 shooting outside of a Livermore hotel, court records show.Ronnie Martinez, 32, and Phe Phan, 30, are charged with fatally shooting 24-year-old Emilio Molina outside of a Motel 6 on May 7, 2021. Molina died early the next morning from a single gunshot wound in the back, but police say both Martinez and Phe pulled guns and fired a total of eight shots at the victim and two other people as they walked to their second-floor rooms.At their November preliminary hearing, Phan and Martinez were identified by police from surveillance footage of the shooting, not by any of the roughly half-dozen eyewitnesses who were present for the shooting. Considering the magnitude of the issue, there need to be programs to get people off the streets and have them triaged by those qualified to address their issues — be it no resources, addiction or incapacity.Perhaps each state, using federal matching funds, could develop appropriate facilities in open, semi-rural spaces to house and address the issues.
