Hockey without the ice hit the streets of Quincy, where the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office held a free street hockey clinic for kids with former Boston Bruins. The clinic for kids ages 6 through 13 gave young hockey players coaching time with former NHL players and was put together in partnership with Hockey Cares for Kids and the Boston Bruins Alumni. The former professional hockey players said the clinic took them back to their younger days.“You remember these days, it was like yesterday we were those kids and this is the funnest thing you can do in life,” former Bruins player David Jensen said.Along with hockey, the kids were educated on sportsmanship, anti-bullying as well as health and nutrition.“It’s hot, but the kids love it. They don’t get as hot as we do. Plenty of water, refreshments, so it’s a great event for the kids,” Jensen said. This is just one of the free events Hockey Cares for Kids puts on in the Boston area. One officer hurt in crash involving police cruiser in Boston

It’s the story of the staties versus the fakie.A Massachusetts State Police trooper pulled over a white Ford Crown Victoria — the standard police cruiser model for many years — driven by Byron J. Boisseau, 43, of Revere, along the 500-block of Ocean Avenue in Revere at around 8 p.m. Sunday.Other drivers had reported to police that the vehicle was flashing amber light and pulling other vehicles off the road, which in turn had the MSP issue a “Be on the Look Out,” or BOLO, alert for the car.Boisseau was arraigned on charges including impersonating a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of burglarious tools in Chelsea District Court Thursday. He was released under standard conditions and will return to court in September, according to the clerk’s office.Police describe the Crown Vic as being white with no identifying markings, other than a push-bar bumper, but its occupant allegedly had a bunch of police-style trimmings. Elizabeth Warren’s position in the U.S. Senate is not guaranteed, a poll of 750 likely voters conducted on behalf of MassFiscal showed, according to the pollsters.Asked to consider a theoretical matchup between the two-term senator and former Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, 41% of respondents said they would give Warren a third term, compared to 29% who would pick Polito. A full 30% were undecided.“It really looks like Sen. Warren is potentially vulnerable for the right candidate and for the right message and it’s something that if I were in her camp I’d be a little bit concerned about,” Jim Eltringham of D.C.-based polling company Advantage Inc., said during a Thursday call with the press. This is the second poll Mass Fiscal has called for where they’ve pitted the 74-year-old Democrat against a well-known Bay State Republican candidate, after conducting the same thought experiment using former Gov. Charlie Baker as foil in May. That poll, as theoretical as this one, showed Baker could ...Kelly Ayotte blames Massachusetts for fentanyl traffickers

Former U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte has continued her crusade against the Bay State saying fentanyl has a pipeline into New Hampshire from “Biden’s open border to Massachusetts.”In launching her bid to be the Granite State’s next governor, the Republican former state attorney general warned her state was one election away from turning into its heavily liberal neighbor. On Thursday, she was more pointed in her critique.“Fentanyl is being trafficked from Biden’s open border to Massachusetts and into New Hampshire,” she wrote on Twitter, before sharing almost a dozen news stories documenting the arrests of Massachusetts residents in New Hampshire on drug-related charges.During an early week appearance on “Fox and Friends,” Ayotte said the deadly synthetic opioid is coming into her state through the cities of Lowell and Lawrence. Her comments were met with a sharp rebuke from officials in Lawrence and Bay State political pundits, one of whom Ayotte says “attac...Shohei Ohtani rewards Angels with 1-hit shutout, 2 home runs as Los Angeles runs risk with keeping him

It didn’t take long for Shohei Ohtani to reward the Angels — at least in the short-term — for apparently deciding not to trade him.Hours after Sports Illustrated reported Los Angeles plans to keep the impending free agent through the season, Ohtani pitched the first complete-game shutout of his career Thursday, holding Detroit to only one hit in the first game of a doubleheader. Then in the second game, Ohtani slugged two home runs as a hitter. The dominant performances marked the latest highlights in a season full of them for the two-way sensation, who improved to 9-5 as a pitcher and whose 38 homers lead all MLB batters. He became the first player to pitch a shutout and hit two home runs on the same day since since Sonny Seibert did so in a single game in 1971, according to MLB’s Sarah Langs.Until recently, many believed the Angels would shop Ohtani, 29, who is expected to command a record contract exceeding $500 million this offseason. MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A small Philippine ferry turned over when passengers suddenly crowded to one side in panic as fierce winds lashed the wooden vessel Thursday, and at least 26 people died, while 40 others were rescued, authorities said. The coast guard and police said search and rescue efforts halted late Thursday but would resume Friday morning. Officials said it remained unclear how many people were aboard the M/B Princess Aya, which capsized in Laguna de Bay in Rizal province. When people rushed to one side of the vessel amid severe winds, the boat tilted and its outrigger broke, then the boat capsized shortly after leaving a wharf in the town of Binangonan for nearby Talim island. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The heavily armed man who killed one Fargo police officer and wounded two as they were investigating a traffic stop had been interviewed about his guns in 2021 after the FBI received a tip, authorities said Thursday. In a statement in response to questions from The Associated Press, the FBI and Fargo Police Department said the FBI received an anonymous tip about Mohamad Barakat in July 2021, in which the tipster expressed concern about Barakat’s mental state, saying he had access to a “significant number of firearms” and had used threatening language. The FBI forwarded the information to the Fargo Police Department. The statement says detectives made three visits to Barakat’s apartment over the next two weeks. They reached him on the third visit and observed several firearms in the apartment, but none were illegal, the statement said. In an interview, Barakat “denied any ill-intentions,” the statement said. “As there was no evidence of any ongoin...Ex-Mississippi prison guard pleads guilty to federal charge in 2019 inmate beating
