WATCH LIVE: Attorney calls it 'screw-up' to rest case against Ken Paxton AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- The impeachment trial of suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton entered its seventh day Wednesday morning with testimony from Paxton's former personal assistant Drew Wicker. Wicker was beside Paxton perhaps more than any other staffer and was one of the first to raise concerns about potential bribery and an extramarital affair. Previous: Paxton communicated with lawyer via encrypted messages, witness says Before lunchtime, Wicker testified that he was asked to handle business relating to Paxton's home kitchen renovations. After working with Paxton's contractor, he became concerned that the work was being funded by Nate Paul, the Austin real estate investor and Paxton campaign donor at the heart of the impeachment charges."Given the fact that we were working on several items related to Mr. Paul, it felt as though there might be an inappropriate relationship the...Heaviest rain still to come

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Scattered showers and storms will continue to push into our area through the evening... but much more will come in the days ahead.A few rounds of storms and downpours are likely Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but specific timing on these rounds would be hard to nail down. Rainfall amounts continue to trend higher with widespread 1.5"-3.0" rainfall totals by the time we dry out later on Sunday. Still, there will likely be localized higher amounts, but probably some unlucky few that stay under an inch.Afternoon highs will warm into the low to mid-90s daily, a stretch we haven't seen since the beginning of summer. I had the opportunity of a lifetime when the Minnesota State Fair offered me a booth in the Education building. My project, Cultural Destinations, featured 50+ cultural businesses who offered Minnesota resources on how to enjoy that cultural dish, gift or fashion accessory. This was perhaps the most diverse group of cultural entrepreneurs assembled in one space at the State Fair and in Minnesota too. A short video would introduce people to, for example, Somali bread or Filipino or Jamaican dishes, the restaurant and owner and how to get there. A website and link gave them access to the video even after the Fair. This way people had a preview before they went to the restaurant/business and had someone they could connect with. The goal was offering resources to help people enjoy cultural experiences. Businesses would be present at the booth to display their offerings. For 12 days at the Fair, I met at least 1,500 people passing by who were from all across Minnesota — from near th...Pandemic-era pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s 2024 world tour includes a stop at Xcel Energy Center

WASHINGTON — On Capitol Hill, House Republicans were all-in Wednesday on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s announcement of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Down Pennsylvania Avenue, the president was holding forth at the White House on the importance of bipartisanship in fighting cancer — and ignoring shouted questions about impeachment. It was a clear sign of Biden’s broader reelection pitch: the idea that if he simply does his job and governs, Americans will see the results and reward him with four more years. Never mind all that pesky impeachment talk across town.Just an hour earlier, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had dismissed the inquiry as a “political stunt” and deflected questions about the details to the White House Counsel’s Office.House Republicans? “We think they should work with us on legitimate issues — things that actually matter to the American people,” she said. The we’re-all-better-than-this attitude is central to the White House strateg...Troy to survey first responder staffing needs
