Timberwolves take on Nuggets in first round of NBA playoffs: Keys to the series, and a prediction Less than 46 hours after clinching their hard-earned playoff berth, the Timberwolves will take the floor in Denver for Game 1 of their NBA Western Conference first-round series against the top-seeded Nuggets.Game 1 of the best-of-seven-games series is Sunday night in Denver. That doesn’t leave much time for preparation and scouting. The good news, Timberwolves coach Chris Finch noted, is Minnesota’s staff started working on a Denver scout prior to beating the Thunder, just in case. The plan was to start imparting some of that knowledge to the team Saturday, hitting players with the highlights. But there will be no deep dives prior to the start of the series.“I don’t think we can overcomplicate things right now. We just have to be ready to go, get back physically,” Finch said. “One advantage of playing in these games, I think, is that you’re pretty battle-ready. So I think our competitive edge will be there, for sure.”Wolves guard Mike Conley noted h...

Nuggets Journal: Michael Malone’s message to Michael Porter Jr. this postseason? “Let it fly” Michael Porter Jr. generally doesn’t need goading. The 6-foot-10 sniper has shot well over 40% from 3-point range every season he’s been healthy. This season, he set a career-high with 7.3 looks from outside per game. With 188 3-pointers made, Porter finished five shy of the franchise record. All of which made Wednesday’s scene, as the No. 1 seed Nuggets prepared for their first-round opponent, so odd.The Nuggets were finishing up practice, concluding with 3-point shooting contests, free-throw challenges and the like. Nuggets coach Michael Malone pulled Porter aside on the near side of the gym closest to reporters and rehashed a scene from practice. The team had designed a play for Porter, but when he came off a screen and had a window to shoot, Denver’s most reliable and dangerous deep threat hesitated.“Let it fly,” Malone told Porter multiple times, emphasizing the need to seize the looks generated out of Denver’s offense. The 293 passes the Nuggets make per game (the sixth-most in t...

Blink and Blondie Punk Up Coachella

Blink and Blondie Punk Up Coachella Blink and Blondie Punk Up Coachella: When the set times for Coachella were made public on Wednesday night, the big surprise was the inclusion of ’90s pop-punkers Blink 182 on the bill. There had been a few rumors during the week but still, their name on the schedule early on Friday evening offered quite the buzz.Casual observers could be forgiven for wondering if anyone would care. In no way, shape or form is Coachella 2023 a rock festival. Pop, hip-hop and electronic music of many shades, sure. But the previously announced bill — all three days — features very little in the way of hard rock and/or punk, and the crowd is a young one.But the thing with the modern Coachella crowd is that genres mean very little. Or at least, that’s what it feels like. To their immense credit, these attendees just want to have a great time and they’re not interested in “Breakfast Club-ing” themselves into a pigeon-hole.Blink performed on the Sahara stage, which...

At the same time, the Western Conference could easily be turned upside-down and still make sense. After so many seasons in which the Warriors were an obvious choice to win the title, these playoffs have a chance to be chaotic. But if we’ve learned one thing about the Warriors, it’s that they thrive in chaos. They live for it.“You feel it more than you see it,” Warriors guard Jordan Poole said of the intensity of the playoffs. “How ...

REDress installation returns to Queen’s campus Upwards of 50 red dresses can be seen hanging along University Avenue and other areas of Queen’s University’s campus. They are part of an art installation that Queen’s has adopted for the second straight year in an effort to mark the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and gender diverse people on May 5.Last year Queen’s had red dresses hanging on campus closer to the date itself, but decided to do so earlier this year so that more students would be on campus and able to engage with and learn about the installation and the issue it represents. Kandice Baptiste, Associate Director at Queen’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives, said it was important to move the date up so students can take in the installation and its’ message, and it seems students are doing so.“We thought it was important this year to move it up into April so that students can also see the dresses,” Baptiste said.“We’ve f...
